Face the doubt. Face the fear. Face the anxiety. Let it happen. Feel it, Embrace it. Welcome it. For it is what gets you through.
If you struggle with social anxiety, OCD, general anxiety or anything that just gets in your way, face it. Don’t run. Resisting something, trying to make sense of it, trying to stop the thoughts or change them or ignore them….it only makes them stronger! They stick around, never answered, and nag at you.
Think of when you want that piece of cake, does focusing on it make that temptation go away? I’m pretty sure that temptation only gets stronger. You smell it, you are salivating, you can imagine the taste…nothing will take that desire away when it’s right in front of you. However, if you just eat it, even a bite, the wonder, desire, and idea of it fades away.
If you worry about what others think of you, sing karaoke anyways, wear the bathing suit, and take a walk solo. If you don’t think you should do it because you won’t win or be the strongest, run anyways; grab the barbell anyways. If you know you are pulling away from someone in an effort to avoid talking about your feelings, talk. Yes, these behaviors are the harder option, but they are also the ones that get you to the other side. They get you unstuck, and get you believing in yourself; you start to see that your comparisons, your fears, and your doubts manifest from inside.
So next time you notice yourself feeling self-conscious, afraid, or fighting your internal voice, lean into it! Embrace it, open your heart, and the world will reward you.
